Description
This wine shimmers with a pale lemon hue. The nose bursts with vibrant aromas of almond blossom intertwined with crisp green apple notes. On the palate, it dances with lively freshness and a zesty crispness, enriched by a whisper of marzipan and honey from the Garganega grapes. Bright citrus flavours linger effortlessly through to a refreshing finish.
PRODUCER These wines are made by Matt Thomson at the Cantina di Monteforte. Verona's 'Ponte Pietra' (stone bridge) dates back to Roman times, although vines have been planted on the hills outside of Verona for much longer than this bridge has spanned the Adige River. VINEYARDS The Garganega grapes for this wine were grown on the hillside vineyards situated next to the Soave zone in the Val d'Alpone. The vineyards have excellent south east exposure, with soils of volcanic origin. The hillside sites give the fruit great concentration. The Trebbiano is all Trebbiano di Soave from spalliera-trained vineyards, producing grapes with a lovely aromatic depth.
VINIFICATION The grapes were hand harvested, destemmed and crushed then pumped to the press without the addition of sulphur. The juice was chilled immediately and naturally settled. Cultured yeasts were added to initiate fermentation, which took place at around 14°C in order to retain freshness and fruit flavours. The wine was bottled young to preserve fresh fruit character.
